  Fair Trade for the Vale.

Cowbridge, Vale of Glamorgan is now an acclaimed fair trade town. This award comes in to effect from March 1st 2008. Our very own patron saint of Wales, day of celebration, FAIRTRADE is a trading partnership, based on dialogue, transparency and respect, that seeks greater equity in international trade. It contributes to sustainable development by offering better trading conditions to, and securing the rights of, marginalized producers and workers in developing countries.

What is FAIRTRADE ?

Fair trade is about better prices, decent working conditions, local sustainability, and fair terms to trade for farmers and workers in the developing world.

By requiring companies to pay above market prices.Fair trade addresses the injustices of conventional trade, which traditionally discriminates against the poorest,

What is the  FAIRTRADE mark ?

The fairtrade mark is an independent consumer label weakest producers. It enables them to improve their lot and have more control over their lives. which appears on a range of retail and catering products, as a guarantee that disadvantaged farmers and workers in the developing world are getting a better deal.

What has the Vale of Glamorgan council done ?

The Vale of Glamorgan council from the 25th February 2008 has been awarded fair trade County Status. Fifteen catering outlets and over 30 retail outlets now serve and sell fair trade goods in the Vale. The FARETRADE items on sale in Cowbridge, already range from Tea, Coffee, and snack products, used in the Living Café, in the  garden center to more unique items such  as the  Fair Trade  jewellery range sold, at Goose Island, and in the casual clothing range sold at Pebbles.
