A few days away in Sardinia.

Surrounded by the Tyrrhenian sea and the Mediterranean, lying south of Corsica,Sardinia is probably the most beautiful island I have had the privilege to travel to several times in the last five years. Everyone has their own bit of paradise, I have certainly found mine. Most people who travel to Sardinia, I chose the well known area of the Costa Esmeralda, where visitors come to enjoy luxury villa’s and pretty sandy beaches, at huge expense. Here I can show you just how you can experience this, at very little cost.

Spring is by far the best season to visit Sardinia, perfumed flowers are in bloom in the marquis thickets, the woods and meadows are still green, and although the weather is warm enough for swimming early as May, it has not reached the scorching temperatures of the summer. The summer months are dedicated to activities along the island’s stunning coast, such as bathing, sailing, and wind surfing. I travelled to the south east of Cagliari, to Villasimus on the unspoilt area of coast known as the Costa Rei. Here you will find fantastic beaches, stretching for miles, white sand, where the sea is four shades of turquoise. There are hotels but they are all low rise.  Second homes are dotted along the coastline. Distance from Cagliari to Villasimus  approx 45 km, and driving will take you approx1hour. The scenery is breath taking.

Southern Sardinia, is the more unspoilt, underdeveloped area of this magnificent Italian island it in parts is, still to be discovered. I travelled to Cagliari the capitol for a five day, four night, mini break, flying from Luton with a budget airline, car parking in Luton, pre booked a small car, five nights in four star apartment bed and breakfast, for the low cost of £571 for two people.. See my top ten tips below.
