Cognitive Therapies

Cognitive Therapies, newly based in Cardiff Bay, consists of therapist Mr Kenneth Spooner, DMH, Dhyp, GQHP, CPNLP, DCBT, BHTA, Master /Clinical Hypnotherapist who is a qualified and experienced practitioner in CBT, NLP, and EFT and uses his years of expertise and his combination of therapies to help his clients deal with a multitude of psychological and behavioural issues.

Ken Spooner is trained to help people with their anxieties and other stress-related conditions such as depression, stress reduction, self harming, being ‘over anxious‘, self confidence, motivation building, fears and phobias, panic attacks, weight loss, smoking cessation, pain control and exam nerves.

Ken Spooner is an experienced therapist who has trained in psychological therapies for several years. These consist of a series of what are known as cognitive therapies, combined with master/clinical hypnotherapy to help reach his clients’ needs.

Cognitive Therapies treat each client as an individual and tailor the treatment accordingly as everyone deals with issues in their own personal way.

The first step is an assessment of the client, where background information is received. This will then be used to tailor the treatment to deal with the specific issues. Then using the clients own words the cognitive therapies combined with hypnotherapy, will produce a powerful combination of physiological treatment.

Ken has a number of tools at his disposal including, Master/Clinical Hypnotherapy which can be used for regression and past life regression. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Emotional Freedom Therapy (EFT), and Neuro-Linguistic- Programming (NLP).

As Ken says ‘We are all different, with different needs and aims. I understand this and tailor all my sessions accordingly. Each session is tailored to the individual client’s needs and personalities‘.

When I speak to the client about them being a non smoker, I would state the obvious about how bad smoking is for you, the cost and so forth, how unsociable it is and then repeating the client’s own words and concerns to reframe their thought patterns to see the positive reasons for giving up their habits. “It is very effective and if my client really wants to be a non smoker the therapy will be one hundred percent successful.

Other problems such as depression and anxiety require longer courses of treatment as they have underlying agendas but are equally successful.

I had a client recently who was a chronic nail biter; her nails were so short that I had difficulty seeing them. I managed to solve the nail biting quite quickly using hypnotherapy, but it was in later sessions that I found the cause of the habit, which was that she was being bullied at work due to her lack of confidence. Her self esteem was at an all time low.

During the next sessions I used EFT to bring the problems to the surface, and then combined NLP, CBT and hypnotherapy as the treatment. I needed to build up her confidence, allowing her to look at herself more positively and help her to gain control of any given situation. We made these changes together and I could see that the therapies had worked due to

Clients come me for all sorts of reasons. Sometimes they find that the relaxing part of hypnosis and using this time to talk to someone is enough to help them find what they are looking for.

There are no gimmicks to hypnotherapy – there’s no waking up and acting in a foolish way. Some clients do not even realise they are hypnotised, but they say they feel wonderful after a session.

I just helped a female client in her forties who was terrified of going to the dentist, she had had a bad experience as a child and when twenty years later she had to go to the dentist again, they had to give her sleeping gas just to get her on the chair. When she awoke (her words) she could hear someone screaming and when she opened her eyes she realised it was her that was screaming and she was being restrained by other dental technicians. When she came to me she told me that other Hypnotherapist’s had tried but failed to get her to the dentist. I used hypnosis combined with NLP to achieve what others had failed to do.

I am asked to help male and female’s of all ages, all with different issues and I treat them in which ever way I feel is most useful to them.
